Mississippi born drummer, publisher and teacher George Lawrence keeps his hands in a
lot of percussion industry pies. As a
drummer, he
is known for his deep-pocket groove and his ability to inspire others to play
their best. Able to fill in at a
moment's notice with no rehearsal, George has been working constantly as a ringer or pinch hitter, for many national acts. After subbing a couple of gigs with Country
Rock pioneer band POCO, he became a full member of that band in 2004, with Poco
releasing their latest album in 2013. George Lawrence has played and or recorded
with some of the world's top artists including Tanya Tucker, Delbert McClinton,
Susan Tedeschi, Diamond Rio, Keb’ Mo, Vince Gill, Lucinda Williams and Kenny
Loggins, to name just a few.
George
currently lives in Nashville where he plays on recording sessions, gigs and
teaches private students at his own facility and at Fork's Drum Closet and is
the owner of Not So Modern Drummer magazine, which hosts the annual Nashville
Drum Show and Snare Drum Olympics. He
has taught thousands of students, many who have gone on to become professional
drummers themselves, including Keith Carlock who is recognized as one of the
world’s top drummers.
