Marching Band Bontang Pupuk Kaltim (MBBPKT), under the direction of Innovative Percussion artist Rene' Conway, performed at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta for Indonesian Independence Day on August 17th. Televised nationwide, MBBPKT performed 4 songs: "Berkibarlah Benderaku", an Indonesian Patriotic song about raising the flag, "Sempurna" a Pop song / Ballad, "Kawan" a song written by the Indonesian President (Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono) encouraging the Indonesian people to join hands to live and work together as friends, and the final song entitled "Untuk Bumi Kita”, with a message to "Save Our World". Conway says, “Untuk Bumi Kita" was composed by the Indonesian President and had never really been performed at the Presidential Palace in a big way. So, at the request of the Palace Committee, I created an arrangement which included Traditional Instruments, a complete Pop Band, Backing Vocalists, Indonesian Pop Singer Rio Febrian with the Marching Band and Color Guard along with traditional East Kalimantan "Dayak" Dancing.” The performance received the highest accolades from both the President and his wife.
