Weichen is a celebrated marimba performer and percussionist, renowned for his performing versatility in solo, chamber, contemporary, and orchestral music. From 2016 to 2022, he served as a member of the Keyboard Committee of the Percussive Arts Society. Between 2016 and 2019, he served as a percussionist with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra for three seasons. As a dynamic international performer, Weichen collaborates with Duo LinLynn alongside Dr. Lynn Vartan. The duo released their debut album, Stars Above, in June 2024. The album received the prestigious Gold Medal at the Global Music Awards in October 2024. In addition, he is a core member of ToolBox Percussion, a leading percussion ensemble in Hong Kong. Weichen is currently an Assistant Professor at National Chiayi University in Taiwan. Previously, he held the position of Associate Professor at Yulin Normal University in Guangxi, China from 2019 to 2021. In spring 2025, he began a new chapter as a marimba faculty member at Boston University, his alma mater.

Weichen has performed as a concerto soloist with prestigious ensembles like the Helena Symphony, Houston Symphony, The Concord Band, Taipei Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Tainan Symphonic Band, Hsin-Chu Recorder Orchestra, Shatin Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Youth Symphony Band, Singapore Wind Symphony Percussion Ensemble, National Chiayi University Symphonic Band, and Boston University Symphony Orchestra.

His career has taken him worldwide, performing and presenting masterclasses in Australia, Austria, China, Italy, Japan, Hong Kong, Macau, Mexico, Mongolia, Russia, Peru, Thailand, Switzerland, Singapore, United Kingdom, United States, and more. Weichen has premiered works by composers such as Yao Chen and Julie Spencer. His premiere performances of “Azura” for marimba solo by Yao Chen, and the “Zalan-Zalan” Concerto for Percussion by Julie Spencer and Gernot Blume received critical praises.

Weichen has adjudicated for major competitions, including the Taiwan Music Competition (2010 - 2024), Hong Kong Music Interflow (2019, 2021), Australian Marimba Competition (2015, 2017, 2002, 2023), United States International Music Competition (2019), and MarimbaFest (2019).

Weichen has received several recognitions throughout his musical journey. He earned First Prize of the 2008 Classical Marimba League International Marimba Artist Competition, First Prize of 2007 Italy PAS International Percussion Competition, Recipient of the 2013 Taiwan NTCH Young Star Series Award, Silver Medal at the 2012 Houston Symphony Ima Hogg Concerto Competition, Third Prize at the 2012 Atlantic Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, Second Prize at the 2007 PASIC Marimba Solo Competition, and Winner of the 2007 Boston University Soloists’ Competition. He was also grateful to receive the Boston University Honors Award twice, in 2008 and 2013, and was inducted as a lifelong member of the National Music Honor Society, Pi Kappa Lambda, in 2014. In 2017, Weichen was honored with the Outstanding Alumni Award from Taipei National University of the Arts, a recognition he deeply values.

In 2008, Weichen received a fellowship from the Tanglewood Music Center. From 2010 to 2011, he made history as the first Timpanist of the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra. He has toured internationally with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, performing at prestigious festivals such as the Lucerne Festival, Grafenegg Festival, and the BBC Proms. Throughout his career, Weichen has had the privilege of performing under the batons of esteemed conductors, including Allen R. Scott, Long Yu, James Levine, Sir Andrew Davis, Bernard Haitink, Oliver Knussen, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, André Previn, Wing Heng Pak, James O’Dell, Yiu-Kwang Chung, and Shih-Wei Lin.

Weichen earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Taipei National University of the Arts before moving to the United States in 2006. He continued his studies at Boston University, where he completed both his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees under the mentorship of Tim Genis. In 2016, he furthered his specialization in marimba performance by obtaining an Artist Diploma from The Boston Conservatory. Recognized for his contributions to the percussion community, Weichen is an Innovative Percussion Signature Artist. His collaboration with Innovative Percussion led to the creation of his own signature mallet line, embodying his artistry and dedication to advancing marimba performance
