Scott McCoy
Scott began studying percussion at the age of 9 from Chicago-area professional Tom Tedrahn. He attended Lake Park High School in Roselle, IL and participated in the nationally renowned Lancer Marching Band as well as the jazz band, wind ensemble and pit orchestra. During this time Scott also studied under Kevin Lepper, Michael Chiodo and Kenneth Snoeck.
After high school Scott attended the University of Kentucky as a Percussion Performance major under the tutelage of Prof. Jim Campbell. While at college Scott played in the percussion ensemble, steel band, marching band, indoor drum line and wind ensemble. As a member of the UK Indoor Drum Line in 1993, he helped the group earn 2nd place at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) Indoor Drum Line competition and achieve 1st place at the Bands of America (BOA) College Indoor Drum Line competition.
Scott's drum corps experience dates back to 1986 when he marched in the Guardsmen Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps from Schaumburg, IL for two years. After graduating from high school he marched snare drum for four years in the Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps from Rosemont, IL. During his time in the Cavaliers, he placed 2nd in the Drum Corps International (DCI) Snare Individuals competition and won the Drum Corps Midwest (DCM) Snare Individual title in 1995. Also in 1995, Scott helped the Cavaliers capture the DCI World Championship title as well as the High Percussion trophy. As a member of the Cavaliers Scott was fortunate enough to be taught by Bret Kuhn, Jim Campbell, Brian Mason, Leif Marwede, Dave Dombeck, Brad Halls, Scott Kretzer, Pat McGowan and Mark Casey. In 2008 Scott was snare drum section leader and drum sergeant for the Cavaliers Anniversary Corps.
In 2006 Scott started his "all-age" drum corps career with the Music City Legend Drum & Bugle Corps from Nashville, TN where he marched snare drum for two years before joining the corps' staff. During Scott's first year with "Legend" he won the 2006 Drum Corps Associates (DCA) Snare Drum Individual title, winning it again in 2008.
Scott's teaching experience includes Lake Park High School (IL), Lafayette High School (KY), Franklin County High School (KY), Scott County High School (KY) and the Blue Stars Drum & Bugle Corps (WI). He is currently the Assistant Percussion Caption Head and Arranger for the Music City Legend Drum & Bugle Corps (TN). Scott was also a percussion arranger for the 2007 Austin Stars Drum & Bugle Corps (TX).
Scott personally endorses Innovative Percussion sticks and mallets and lives in Frankfort, KY where he enjoys his career as a systems engineer.
