Sergeant First Class Rob Moore is a professional
percussionist and freelance artist in the Washington DC area.
Rob graduated from the University of North Texas in 2003
with a Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance. While at North Texas, Rob enjoyed performing
and recording with musicians such as Keiko Abe, Christopher Deane, and Mark
Ford; with the Wind Symphony and as a member of the percussion ensemble. He also performed and toured with the UNT
steel band and is a founding member of the Bain Percussion Group. While at UNT, Rob minored in wind ensemble
conducting; studying with Eugene Corporon and Dennis Fisher. Rob holds a BS in Music Education from
Michigan State University where he studied percussion with Alison Shaw. Rob was an active marching percussionist at
MSU, eventually serving as an assistant drum line instructor and arranger with
the Spartan Marching Band and indoor drum line programs.
In 2000 and 2001, Mr. Moore served as a percussion
instructor for the world champion, Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. His duties with the corps included daily
musical instruction and spot arranging for the front ensemble. Rob also performed with the Cavaliers front ensemble
from 1996-1998, studying with Erik Johnson and Bret Kuhn. In 1999, Rob attended the Aspen Music
Festival as a Zildjian scholar, where he studied orchestral percussion with
Doug Howard and Tom Stubbs.
Rob joined the US Army Band “Pershing’s Own” in 2003 where
he serves as section percussionist and assistant head drum major in the
Ceremonial Band. His duties include
performing for military full honor funerals at Arlington National Cemetery, as
well as providing musical support for dignitaries and ceremonies at the
Pentagon, White House, and throughout the Washington D.C. region. As drum major, SFC Moore leads and conducts
varying missions at Arlington, Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers, and Department of
the Army Retirement Ceremonies. As a
freelance percussionist, he has also performed with various groups throughout
DC, as well as the world renowned Brass Band of Battle Creek and Baltimore
Symphony Orchestra.
Rob lives in Lorton, Virginia with his wife Jena, daughter
Mary Iris, and sons Truman Able and Beauman Merit.
