Rob Avsharian was born and raised in Ann Arbor, MI.
A graduate of The University of North Texas including a stint at Berklee
College of Music. Rob earned a bachelor’s degree in jazz studies from UNT in
1994. After college, while building a busy live and studio freelance schedule
in Dallas, Rob co-founded the experimental new-wave/punk band Bobgoblin who
later signed with MCA Records in 1997. After releasing “The Twelve Point Master
Plan” on MCA, the band took on the alter-ego “The Adventures Of Jet”, and
recorded the CDs “Part 3: Coping With Insignificance”, and “Muscle”. Rob also
recorded with Boston jazz guitar great Tim Miller, including 1997’s “With The Distance”,
and in 2002, “Sides” featuring George Garzone on tenor saxophone. After 3 years
of touring nationally with Bobgoblin/The Adventures Of Jet, Rob hit the road
again with Island/Def Jam artist The Rocket Summer, and toured the US
extensively until 2004 including tours in Canada, Japan, England, Scotland, and
Ireland.
Rob also recorded the theme music for the US release of “Dragonball”, “YuYu
Hakusho” and “Blue Gender”, the legendary Japanese anime series shown on
Cartoon Network.
Rob toured Western Europe, Egypt, Turkey and Kosovo with county singer Derek
Sholl in 2009 for an Armed Forces Entertainment tour.
Rob frequently tours worldwide (US, Europe, and Asia) with guitarist Andy
Timmons(2008-present), and is features on the new Andy Timmons Band release
‘Theme From A Perfect World'(2016).
Rob has recorded and/or
performed with Snarky Puppy, Rick Roe, Ralphe Armstrong, Grammy Award winning
polka/world music group Brave Combo, Dwight Adams(Stevie Wonder), Matt
Nathanson, Steve Bailey, George Garzone, Dennis DeBlazio, Henry Hey, Michael
Davis, Bill Reichenbach(L.A. session great), Jimi Tunnel(Steps), Fred Hamilton,
Sean Wayland, Bernard Wright(Miles Davis, Marcus Miller), Gilad Heckselmann(Ari
Hoenig), Dave Fiuczynski(Screaming Headless Torsos), Steve Hunt(Alan
Holdsworth), Kevin Meisel, Little Jack Melody and His Young Turks, My Brightest
Diamond, Kristoffer Ragnstam, Alexander Zonjic, and Robert Gomez. Rob has
taught privately and in master class format at Berklee’s ‘Guitar Session’ week,
The University Of Idaho, and trio clinics with Andy Timmons. Rob has also
performed on National Public Radio’s “Michael Feldman’s Whad’Ya Know?”, and
NPR’s ‘World Cafe Live’ (in Philadelphia w/Matt Nathanson). Also Rob has
recorded ad music for IBM, Juicy Juice, GM Goodwrench, and Wastiener beer.
Rob is an endorser of Canopus Drums, Innovative Percussion drumsticks and
Evans drumheads and accessories.
