A Tulsa, Oklahoma native, Phil began playing percussion at age 11. While attending Union High School in Tulsa, OK (1988-1990), he was a member of the Renegade Regiment. The program won the Oklahoma State Championship all three years. In addition, Union made two Finals appearances (1989 & 1990) in the Bands of America® Grand National Championships and won the Bands of America® National Indoor Marching Percussion Festival in 1989. During the 1990 season, Phil was a member of Black Gold Drum & Bugle Corps. While playing in the snare line at the age of 16, Black Gold placed in the Top 25 for the first time in World Class (then, Open Class) at the Drum Corps International® World Championships.

Phil was accepted into The University of North Texas and Middle Tennessee State University. He chose to enter the Recording Industry Management program at MTSU to be close to the Nashville music scene. During 1992-1993, Phil played in the Band of Blue Snare Line at MTSU under the direction of Lalo Davila. Future performances and study were exclusive to the drum set.

As an artist, Phil has performed with an array of recording & performing artists/ensembles with styles including Contemporary Jazz, Big Band Jazz, Blues, Country, Contemporary Worship (including hundreds of worship services with LifePoint Church), Rock and Pop and has performed throughout North America and in Central America. As an educator, Phil has served as the Director of Percussion for Smyrna High School in Tennessee and is a freelance private/group instructor in the Nashville area for all areas of percussion.

Phil currently plays Yamaha Drums, Sabian Cymbals, Evans Drumheads and uses Innovative Percussion, Inc.® Sticks and Mallets, exclusively.
