Phil Vallejo is the Director of Instrumental Music at James Enochs High School, in Modesto,California. Phil Vallejo, and his wife Courtney, along with their two children, are excited tobe returning to the Modesto area and to become part of the Enochs Instrumental Music andGuard family.

Before his appointment at James Enochs High School, Phil Vallejo was the Director of Instrumental Music at Clovis East High School for seven years. Before becoming the Director, Phil Vallejo spent four years as a percussion instructor for the Clovis East High School marching band, concert percussion ensemble and winter percussion ensemble. During Phil’s eleven years at Clovis East High School, Phil was fortunate to be a part of some nationally and state recognized programs, not only with the percussion ensemble, but with the wind ensemble and marching band.

Phil Vallejo holds a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Music Education, as well as a Masters of Arts Degree in Music Performance, both from California State University, Fresno. While at California State University, Fresno, Phil was able to study with great teachers and musicians such as Dr. Lawrence Sutherland, Dr. Gary P. Gilroy, Dr. Matthew Darling, and Mr. Allan Kristensen.

As a performer at Fresno State, Phil Vallejo was a member of the wind ensemble, jazz band, symphonic band, chamber singers, concert choir, percussion ensemble, and marching band.

In addition to his participation at Fresno State, he was also a member of Drum Corps International. Phil was both a performer (1995-1999) and a teacher (2000-2001) for the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps. Phil was also a part of the company Blast!, as a performer of the cast “Shockwave” (2002-2003). Phil also spent three years (2004-2005 and 2007) teaching the Fever Drum and Bugle Corps from Modesto, California.

The pageantry world has been extremely influential in Phil’s life as a musician and as a teacher. Phil had many great teachers such as Murray Gusseck, Jim Casella, Kent Cater, Mike Apodaca, Robert Chavira, David Reeves, Jeff Lee, Jim Ancona, Thom Hannum, Adam Wilke, and Shawn Glyde. Phil's biggest influences and inspiration comes from his long time friend Vince Oliver and past teachers Dr. Gary P. Gilroy and Murray Gusseck.

Phil Vallejo has also been a volunteer for the California Band Directors Association Convention, serving as a Band Manager and Assistant Convention Host. In 2013, Phil served as the Convention Host for the California All State Music Educators Conference (CASMEC) and is continuing to serve the convention for years to come. Phil was also the Circuit Administrator for the San Joaquin Valley Color Guard and Percussion Review (SJVCGPR) from 2006-2013. Phil Vallejo is an active adjudicator and is the current Percussion Judge Coordinator for the PPAACC and SJVCGPR organizations.

In his spare time, Phil enjoys hanging out with his wife Courtney and their beautiful children, as well as playing basketball and racquetball.
