Mizuki Morimoto

Mizuki Morimoto was born in Japan, started playing percussion at the age of 9. She has studied in Japan, Singapore and the U.S.. She has studied with Tsuyoshi Yamamoto, Jonathan Fox, Robert Van Sice, Greg Zuber, Daniel Drickman, Markus Rhoten and Eduardo Leandro. She has performed in various countries, such as Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and the U.S. as a soloist and a member of chamber groups. She also has performed in orchestras such as Osaka philharmonic orchestra, Kansai philharmonic orchestra, Izumi sinfonietta Osaka, and Singapore symphony orchestra. In 2015, she was chosen to play a marimba concerto called Deep Red by Bright Sheng as a soloist with Conservatory New Music Ensemble. She is eager to perform various styles of music, including orchestra performance, chamber performance and solo performance. She especially enjoys playing in a chamber group. From April in 2022, she teaches at Kyoto City University of Arts as a full-time artist faculty. She earned her master’s degree from Juilliard school where she received several scholarships such as Edward Jabes scholarship, Ruth Katzman Scholarship, and Ute Kyatenbueh scholarship. Currently she is a DMA student at Stony Brook University where she also works as a teaching assistant.
