Mike Malgoza holds a M.M. in Percussion Performance from Illinois State University. While at Illinois State he assisted with the marching band, taught private lessons to music minors, conducted the percussion ensemble, taught a percussion methods course, was a featured soloist with various ensembles, and provided numerous studio master classes. Prior to his studies at Illinois State Mike earned a B.A. in Music from Rollins College in Winter Park Florida. While at Rollins he qualified as a National Finalist in the Music Teachers National Association Solo Percussion competition.
As a performer, Mike began freelancing at the age of 16 with various orchestras, and entertainment companies. He has performed with the Magic of Orlando, the Boston Crusaders, and the Phantom Regiment drum and bugle corps. He has also performed with numerous orchestras throughout Central Florida, and the state of Illinois, including the Brevard Symphony and the Illinois Symphony.
As an educator, Mike has been teaching privately for the past 14 years. Former students of his have moved on to educational institutions such as Ithaca College, Indiana University, Northwestern University, the University of North Texas, New York University, the University of Miami, the Conservatory for Music and Dance at Lyon, Illinois State University, and the University of South Florida. A number of former students have also moved on to compete with various ensembles including the Cavaliers, the Cadets, the Blue Devils, the Phantom Regiment, the Boston Crusaders, the Bluestars, the Glassmen, and the Crossmen.
