Massimo Buonanno is counted as one of today’s most sought-after live and Session Drummer.
Massimo began playing drums at age 13 in his native Egnach, Switzerland and, as a prodigy he quickly created demand for his skillful playing in the local music scene.
«The Rhythmind», produced by Massimo at age 15, was his first solo recording. Considered by his peers and mentors to be one of the best drummers emerging from Switzerland, Massimo played across the Country with a variety of bands, and by age 16, he was already in demand as a session musician in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and Italy.
Four times Massimo won The First Prize at the Swiss National Drum Contest. Participating in numerous drumming and percussion competitions since 1999 He also won The First Prize at the Best European Musician Contest; twice he was awarded First Prize at the Drums & More Festival in Austria; and he also won First Prize at the «Jeff Porcaro Tribute Contest» in Germany.
In 2005, Massimo attended The Drummer’s Collective, a world reknowned Drummer School in New York, on a full scholarship. He studied with several famous musicians such as Kim Plainfield, Ian Froman, and Marco Djordjevic.
The Berklee College of Music, Boston, awarded a partial scholarship for academic study to Massimo, which he completed in December , 2010. Dave Fiuczynski, Mark Walker, Dan Moretti, Oscar Stagnaro, Michael Ferguson, Eguie Castrillo, Jamie Haddad, Mike Mangini, Victor Mendoza, Dave DiCenso, Jeff Stout, Casey Scheurelle, and Susan Rogers left an indelible mark on Massimo’s ambition to be the best drummer he can possibly be in a career dedicated to collaboration, experimentation, and dedication to his craft.
