Luis was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He attended Earl Warren High School where he participated in the drumline and indoor drumline group under the direction of Jason Jung and Daniel Asgari. Luis then went on to Texas State University to pursue music education where he was mentored and taught by Robert Lopez. While he was at Texas State he was a part of many ensembles such as the Texas State Bobcat Marching Band, Symphonic Winds, Wind Symphony, Steel Band and numerous percussion ensembles. In his junior year, he was principal of Symphonic Winds and in his senior year he was drumline captain of the marching band. Outside of college, Luis has competed in WGI, Winter Guard International, with groups such as Teatro Indoor Percussion, Rhythmic Force Percussion, and 5Points Percussion.
During Luis’ last years of college he started his teacher career. He taught at numerous high schools in the central Texas area assisting groups during their indoor season along with being a drumline tech during their summer camps. Luis also worked at the Texas State Percussion Camp teaching middle school and high school percussion ensembles which gave him numerous opportunities to work with great artists such as Ivan Trevino, Robert Ferguson, and Thomas Burritt. After receiving his degree from Texas State in 2016, he gave private lessons at schools such as Floresville and Jourdanton.
Luis now holds the position of Assistant Band Director/Percussion Instructor at Gladys Porter Early College High School in Brownsville, Texas.
