Kevin Ownby is currently the Assistant Director of Bands, Percussion Specialist and Marching Percussion Arranger at Oak Mountain High School in Birmingham, Alabama.

He joined the band staff at Oak Mountain in 2004. Under his direction the Oak Mountain High School Percussion Ensemble was invited to play at the 2006 Percussive Arts Society Alabama Day of Percussion. The percussion ensemble is also one of three high school ensembles to be invited to perform a 50 minute Showcase Concert at the 2007 Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Columbus, Ohio.

Ownby is a graduate of Austin High School in Decatur, AL. He received his Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama and his Masters Degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Ownby has also served as Principal Timpanist for the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra, Percussionist for Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as performing with other groups such as the Colorado Ballet, Colorado Music Festival, Tuscaloosa Symphony, and the Alabama Symphony. He is also a member of the Birmingham Percussion Group which performs solo and percussion ensemble literature.

Ownby is a member of the ABA, MENC, and Percussive Arts Society.
