Kevin Norton is a composer and percussionist who has performed his music internationally for almost twenty years. He is engaged in bringing a wider pallet of sounds and rhythms to jazz and new music. He has released eleven recordings as a leader, and his compositions push beyond stylistic boundaries and offer original, challenging, yet rooted and unpretentious music. Most of these compositions are registered with ASCAP.
Kevin can also be heard playing creative percussion with Anthony Braxton's ensembles and has played with Braxton for the last ten years, including most of the Ghost Trance projects and a quartet that is getting a lot of attention, investigating the traditional jazz repertoire from a fresh an exciting perspective. Kevin as a percussionist, has also worked with Milt Hinton, Joëlle Léandre, James Emery, Bern Nix, John Lindberg, Tony Malaby, Dave Ballou, Mario Pavone, Marie McAuliffe, Wilber Morris, Denman Maoney, Paul Dunmall, Paul Rogers, Frode Gjerstad, J.D. Parran, Fred Frith, Phillip Johnston, Ed Ratliff, Mark Dresser, The Sound Vision Orchestra, Steve Cohn, Eugene Chadbourne, and many other unique musicians.
Kevin received his Masters Degree from the Manhattan School of Music and is currently on the faculty of William Paterson University.
