Kevin has a long history of success in drumming. His drum corps playing career started on snare drum with the Velvet Knights Drum & Bugle Corps in 1984 where the corps made their first top 12 DCI Finals appearance. The next year, the corps did well in percussion, placing eighth. From 1986-1988, Kevin played snare drum for the Concord Blue Devils, and the corps won the DCI Championship and high percussion as well in 1986. Kevin won snare individuals in 1987 (winning his first attempt at competing) and became section leader in 1988. From 1990-1991, Kevin attended the University of North Texas where the drum line won consecutive PASIC drum titles, with Kevin winning the snare drum individual championship in 1990 and serving as section leader in 1991.
As an instructor, Kevin taught the Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps in 1991 under Ralph Hardimon, Santa Clara Vanguard from 1992-1993 under Scott Johnson, and continued onto the Blue Devils when Johnson made the change in 1994. The Blue Devils started a dominant run at that time, winning drums and corps in 1994, 1996 and 1997. Kevin authored one of the most popular 60-second warm ups of all time: "The Ditty," and was instrumental in developing the drumming technique and approach that has been employed by many drum lines since 1994.
As a performer, Kevin also has had a successful career playing drum-set, playing with popular bands in the Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay area. Kevin currently plays with Bad Monkey – a San Jose based cover band, and works on original projects with Bay Area songwriters regularly.
Kevin earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from San Jose State University, California with a concentration in marketing. When he is not teaching or playing, Kevin works in the high-tech industry in Silicon Valley.
