Ken Brooks

Ken Brooks has been composing, arranging, performing and teaching percussion in the classroom and as a touring clinician for over twenty five years. Ken earned his Bachelor of Science in Music Education at Edinboro State University, Edinboro, Pennsylvania. Mr. Brooks spent five years in the music publishing business as Production Coordinator for Columbia Pictures and Belwin Mills Music, Incorporated (CPP/Belwin, Inc) . Ken also spent three years as a percussion specialist for Grover Pro Percussion out of Woburn, MA.
Ken has arranged for the Empire Statesmen Drum and Bugle Corps, 1994, 1997, 1998, 2003, 2004, Senior World Champions and winner of five percussion titles over the last eleven years. Ken has written for and instructed other drum and bugle corps such as the Suncoast Sound, Florida Wave, and the Boston Crusaders, several competitive high schools in Florida, New York and Pennsylvania, as well as in Japan, Germany, and South Korea.
Ken has been a percussion instructor and consultant for the Hilton Indoor Drumline from Hilton, NY since 1998. Hilton recently placed sixth in the 2006 WGI World Percussion Championships in Dayton, Ohio. Hilton has also won the New York State Indoor Percussion Championship nine out of the last eleven years. Other indoor lines include Eastridge High School, Aquinas Institute, and Marcus Whitman High School, all in the Rochester area.
Mr. Brooks has also performed as a percussionist with the Erie Philharmonic Orchestra, The Dance Theater of Erie, the Ballet Randolph in Miami, Florida, South Florida Percussion Group, The Greater Rochester Area Percussion Ensemble, and has performed at several Day of Percussion events in New York and Florida.
Ken is an original member of the group Five Eight Five and played percussion for the first five years with the group, and is currently the drummer for the last five years. Ken is also the Personnel Director and maintains the active music library for the group. Ken has performed live in many different venues including:
NFL- Post Game Parties, Ryder Cup, Corporate Events and casinos all over the United States including Las Vegas, Nevada, New York State, Iowa, North Carolina, Arizona and Gulf Coast. Performing on a regular basis with Five Eight Five, Ken has also opened for such great acts as Little River Band, Starship, Dr. John, Joey D and the Starlighters, Spirit of the West, Benny Mardones, The Tramps, Otis Day & The Knights, Chuck Berry and Chubby Checker to name a few.
