Jeremy Maytum, a native of Colorado, is a graduate of Colorado State University in 2009, where he earned the Master’s Degree in Percussion Performance and served as the Graduate Teaching Assistant for the award-winning CSU Percussion Studio under the direction of Dr. Eric Hollenbeck. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Percussion Performance from Colorado State University-Pueblo in 2007, where he was a student of Aaron Turner.
As an orchestral musician, Jeremy has performed with the Cheyenne Symphony, the Fort Collins Symphony, the Greeley and Boulder Philharmonic, the Lexington Philharmonic, and the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. He has also made a guest appearance playing timpani with The United States Army Field Band in Washington, D.C. As an international performer, he has performed in both the Inner Mongolia region of China and the Czech Republic.
Jeremy has formerly served as the Adjunct Professor of Percussion at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, WY. Additionally, he has held the position of Director of Percussion Studies at Bear Creek High School in Lakewood, CO as well as serving on percussion staff at Loveland High School in Loveland, CO and Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins, CO. Under his direction, Bear Creek HS was awarded the 2014 RMPA Concert World Class State Championship . A dedicated performer in the world of the marching arts, he served as timpanist for the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps in 2005.
Currently, Jeremy is the Coordinator of Marching Percussion at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD. In addition, he is pursuing his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Percussion Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Kentucky, where he studies with James Campbell. As a chamber musician, he regularly performs as a member of the percussion quartet BlueSHIFT. Along with regular national clinic and performance tours, BlueSHIFT has been the featured ensemble at the Outside The Box New Music Festival in Carbondale, IL. Mr. Maytum is also on percussion staff with the 6-time Bands of America National Champion Adair County High School Marching Band in Columbia, KY, and Urbana High School in Frederick, MD. Under his instruction, Adair County HS was named the 2016 and 2017 BOA Class A National Champion. Mr. Maytum teaches privately in Baltimore, MD and the surrounding area.
