Jason O'Brien holds a Bachelors and Masters in Music Performance from The College of New Jersey and New Jersey City University. While there he won The College of New Jersey concerto competition and was a featured soloist with the orchestras and ensembles at both schools.
He is an East Coast percussionist and educator who has taught and written for multiple BOA Regional Class Champions, as well as local state and circuit champions. Since 2007 he has been an adjunct faculty member at Passaic County Community College, and was invited to be a clinician in residence at Independence Community College for the 2021 academic year.
In 2020 and 2021 he won the DCI Performers Showcase all age division on marimba. From 2000-2004 he marched in the Crossmen spending 1 year as front ensemble section leader.
Since 2018 he has been a member of the Charu Suri Group. With them he has performed at numerous venues and festivals including Carnegie Hall, The St Croix Jazz Festival and Birdland.
In 2022 Jay joined the Paterson Music Project part of the Wharton Arts and El Sistema umbrella as the percussion coordinator and instructor.
In 2022 he orchestrated and originated the Off Broadway musical CAMP!
The Musical and is the drummer on the original cast album being released in mid 2023.
