Dr. Jacob Kight serves as Adjunct Instructor of Percussion at the University of South Florida. His duties include private instruction of all percussion majors, directing the percussion ensemble, and teaching percussion techniques to music education majors. In addition to his career in education, he performs with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Gulf Coast, and is a founding member of the Patterns Quartet.

In addition to his concentrations on solo performance, chamber music, and orchestral playing, he is also well-versed in hand drumming and rudimental percussion. As an educator, he teaches applied lessons and classes at every level (grade school to graduate students) and has worked with many influential percussion educators, including Jeff Moore, Kirk Gay, Dr. Thad Anderson, and Dr. John W. Parks, IV.

Fluent in contemporary audio and video recording technology, Dr. Kight’s projects have been distributed by Flying Horse Records, Garnet House Productions, and Ravello Records. Several of these projects have resulted in presentations at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, PAS Days of Percussion, and the McCormick Marimba Festival. He is a member of the Music Technology Committee of PAS and operates JKight Percussion, a wood-working business that builds hand-crafted percussion instruments and accessories.
Dr. Kight earned a Doctor of Music degree in Percussion Performance at Florida State University where he oversaw instruction and coaching of undergraduate performance majors, as well as the world-renown FSU Marching Chiefs Big 8 Drum Line. He holds a Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance from the Florida State University and a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the University of Central Florida. Dr. Kight is a proud Innovative Percussion artist and endorser.
