Eric Medina is currently the Assistant Band Director/Director of Percussion at Seguin High School in the Seguin Independent School District. This is his first year on staff with the Matador Band. Mr. Medina graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelors of Music in Music Education. His most intensive studies came under the direction of Sherry Rubins, Graeme Francis, Michael Mixtacki, Benjamin Pyles and Si Millican.
Previously, Mr. Medina had been privileged to be a part of the Del Rio High School Mighty Ram Band staff where they have been a UIL Texas State Marching Band Qualifier, BOA class 3A Champion, Regional Finalist, Bronze Medalist, perennial Area Finalist and a 2023 Midwest Clinic Invited Program for Del Rio’s award-winning Jazz Ensemble. In the spring of 2023, Mr. Medina led the Del Rio Indoor Percussion to a bronze medal at the TCGC State Championships in College Station. Mr. Medina has also had Jazz students record for All State Jazz that have placed top 20 in the state, several percussion students and percussion ensembles be awarded superior divisions and qualified for the State Solo and Ensemble contest.
Mr. Medina has had the opportunity to perform and teach with DCI and WGI organizations in the country. In 2017, he was a member the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps and from 2016-2018, he participated with UTSA Indoor in their WGI and TCGC circuits. In 2019, 2020, 2024 to present day, Mr. Medina has served as a staff member for the UTSA Indoor Ensemble. In 2019, the organization took their first trip to WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio, placing 7th in Percussion Independent Open for the first time in organization history. In 2024, returning to the staff, UTSA placed 6th in Open Finals, and in 2025, UTSA Indoor received the Bronze Medal in Open Class Finals, marking the highest placement in organization history.
Along with teaching, Mr. Medina is also an active percussion arranger and composer. Mr. Medina is proudly endorsed by Innovative Percussion. Mr. Medina uses Remo Drumheads, Zildjan Cymbals, and Pearl and Adams Percussion. He is a member of Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Band Masters Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
In his free time, Mr. Medina enjoys watching sports, playing pickleball, video games, traveling, and spending time with his cat, Luna.
