Dominick Cuccia began his musical journey in 1976. As a young musician he had his first opportunity to teach in 1981 at the age of 13. He received his Bachelor Degree in Music Education from Wilkes University and his Masters Degree from Northwestern State University of Louisiana. As a performer he was a member of the United States Military Academy Bands legendary field music group, The Hellcats stationed at West Point, New York, as well as group leader of Walt Disney Worlds Founders of Freedom in Orlando, Florida. He is also the author of The Beat of a Different Drummer, and co-author of The Favorite Solo’s of Campbell, Cuccia & Pratt, published by Meredith Music Publications.
Today Dominick is an instrumental music teacher and composer for The Paul Effman Music Service (http://www.pauleffmanmusic.com/) He has created two snare drum method books for the music service and highly endorsees the LJ Hutchen line of quality band instruments.
Dominick is regarded as one of the worlds premier authority’s on traditional & “not-so-traditional” rudimental drumming and is featured on the PAS DVD from 2002 “The Drummers Heritage Concert.”
In the world of Fife & Drum corps he has taught some of the best.
• The Young Colonials from Carmel, New York won 4 consecutive Northeastern Championships while he was director & drum instructor.
• The Regulators from Dover Plains, New York have won the Northeasterns twice as well as many high drum awards.
• The Civil War Troopers from Cornwall, New York have won the Earl Sturtze Memorial Trophy for high drums an unprecedented 7 times.
• Gus’ Gang from New England is a non-competitive fife & drum ensemble known for their entertaining music and commitment to family & patriotism. Ala Famiglia!
• The Cuccia, Attanasio & Cuccia Fife & Drum Trio has performed in concert at PASIC and the historic John Jay Homestead.
Dominick is the chairman of the music committee for The Company of Fifers & Drummers and music editor for The Ancient Times, the premier publication in the world of fife & drum. He is also on the marching percussion committee for the Percussive Arts Society and is a charter member of the International Association of Traditional Drummers. His newest project, Dreaded Drummer Productions is dedicated to preserving and advancing the art of rudimental drumming.
