Derek Boughey, freelance percussion performer, composer, and educator, earned his Masters of Music in Percussion Performance from Illinois State University and also holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Colorado State University. Derek has studied with Eric Hollenbeck, David
Collier, Shilo Stroman, Don Prorak, Doug Rosener, Dave Marvin, and Mike Nevin. Formerly, Derek was an Assistant Professor of Percussion and the Technical Director of the School of Music at Illinois State University. Derek has written for, and been an instructor at, a multitude of high school, collegiate, and WGI percussion ensembles in Colorado and across the Midwest. Additionally, he arranged for Vision Through Music Productions and was an instructor at the Music for All Summer Symposium in Orchestral Percussion.
As a performer, Derek has played with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, the Missouri Symphony Orchestra, the Heartland Festival Orchestra, the Champaign Chorale, the Peoria Ballet, a number of collegiate ensembles, the World Champion Blue Knights Percussion Ensemble,
Grassroots Radio, and Ten Pound Turtles. Derek currently resides in San Antonio, Texas with his wife Nikki and sons, Morgan and Tristan.
