Dr. Danny Frye is the Director of Athletic Bands at High Point University. Since Frye’s arrival in 2009, he has overseen tremendous growth in both quantity of players and quality of performances for the band, including founding the first marching band at the university. Prior to his appointment at High Point University, Danny served as the Assistant Director of Bands at Wake Forest University, the Instructor of Percussion at Pfeiffer University, and the Instructor of Percussion at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Frye is a frequent band and percussion clinician throughout the Southeast.
As a concert marimbist, Danny has appeared as a guest artist at the Festival Internacional de la Percusion in Puerto Rico, the Southeastern Percussion Festival, and the Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina Days of Percussion. He has also given recitals, clinics, and masterclasses at universities throughout the US.
As a professional percussionist, Danny is an accomplished drum set player, as well as a seasoned orchestral percussionist. Frye has performed with Aretha Franklin and Lorrie Morgan, as well as with the Charleston, SC, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem Symphonies.
Frye can be heard on Kindermusik recordings, “Silent Night” with the Bel Canto Company, “The Percussion Music of Dan McCarthy,” “Sketches” with the UNCG Percussion Ensemble, “First in Flight” with the North Carolina Brass Band, and “Praxis” with Brian Meixner and the Gate City Percussion Ensemble.
Dr. Frye earned his DMA degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is blessed to have a loving and supportive wife and three wonderful children.
