Chris Ozinga is an Assistant Director of Bands and Director of Percussion for Mustang Public Schools in Mustang, Oklahoma. The Mustang High School Marching Band consistently performs well at Bands of America Regional and Grand National events. High accolades for this ensemble include being a finalist band at the 2015 BOA St. Louis Super Regional event and a semi-finalist band at the 2018 BOA Grand Nationals event. The marching band is also routinely a top-six finalist band at Oklahoma Bandmasters Association Marching Contest.
The Mustang High School Percussion Ensemble regularly performs at a high level for various events throughout Oklahoma. In 2017, the percussion ensemble was a featured ensemble at the Oklahoma Music Educators Association Convention. Other ensembles Chris is responsible for consistently perform well and receive superior ratings at OSSAA events.
Chris is a founding director of Resistance Indoor Percussion, a non-profit indoor percussion group developed to promote and enhance the indoor percussion activity in Oklahoma. Resistance performs annually in WGPO and WGI events around the country.
Chris is an active composer, arranger, and sound engineer for various schools across Oklahoma and Michigan. He also maintains a private teaching studio and is an active freelance musician in the Oklahoma City area, frequently playing with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic.
Chris earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and Music Performance from Alma College in Alma, Michigan, studying with Dave Zerbe, and a Master’s Degree in Music Performance from Oklahoma City University in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, studying with Dr. David Steffens. Chris is a member of Percussive Arts Society, Oklahoma Music Educators Association, and Oklahoma Bandmasters Association.
