Carlos Johnson is currently pursuing his Masters of Music Degree in Music Performance from Austin Peay State University under the instruction of David Stienquest.  He is a graduate of Murray State University, where he received his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Music.

While a graduate assistant at APSU, Carlos served as an instructor to the drumline and was the principle percussionist for the APSU Wind Ensemble and orchestra among other duties. He is currently the youth percussion instructor for APSU Community School of the Arts program.

Carlos' teachers include David Steinquest, Dr. Tom Vanarsdel, and Dr. John Hill.  He has also taken lessons from Dr. Gifford Howarth, Ted Rounds, Dr. Eric Willie, and Theodor Milkov.  While attending the 2006 and 2008 Zeltsman Marimba Festival he had the opportunity to receive lessons from Nancy Zeltsman, Jack Van Geem, Fumito Nunoya, Dane Richeson, Naoko Takada, Keiko Kotoku, and Orlando Cotto. Carlos also participant of Nief-Norf Summer Festival.

Carlos is a former member of East Coast Jazz Drum & Bugle Corps, a nine-time finalist Open Class DCI Corps, and the five-time DCA Champion the Syracuse Brigadiers.  Carlos has competed in the PASIC Solo Marching Tenor Competition in 2001 and 2003, and placed 7th in 2003.  In the DCA Individual & Ensemble (I & E) Competition in 2004 Carlos placed 3rd on keyboard.  He has also taught many private lessons and percussion ensembles in various places in Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, and New York.  Many of his students have placed top honors in various state honor bands, GSA, and drum corps.  Some of the WGI percussion ensembles he has worked with include Clarksville High School, Clarksville, TN (2011 Open Class SCGC Silver medalists), was a consultant/staff member for Muscle Shoals High School, Muscles Shoals Alabama (2011 PSCW Gold medalist and SCGC Gold medalist) in 2011, staff member for Northwest High School, Clarksville, TN (2010 8th PSCO and SCGC Silver Medalist), Centennial High School, Franklin Tn, and Spring Hill High School, Columbia, TN.

Carlos has been recognized by receiving awards as a teacher for the work he has done for the community and his students.

Carlos is a Educational Technology Assistant for Pocket Percussion Teacher, a member of the Percussive Arts Society, MENC:  The National Association for Music Education, American Orff-Schulwerk Association, Remo Education Artist, Majestic/Mapex Percussion Educator/Artist and an Innovative Percussion Education Artist.
