Bennett Coughlin is a percussionist and music educator based in the Greater Syracuse–Auburn area of New York. He currently serves as a music teacher in the Auburn Enlarged City School District and holds multiple leadership roles with the Auburn Vanguard Marching Band, including Percussion Caption Head, Music Coordinator, and Music Arranger/Composer. He is also the Founder, Director, and Program Coordinator of the Auburn High School Indoor Percussion Ensemble.
Beyond his work with Auburn, Bennett serves on the instructional staff of the University at Albany Marching Great Danes as a Battery Instructor. He has previously worked with the percussion staffs of the New York Skyliners Drum & Bugle Corps, the Cicero–North Syracuse Northstars Marching Band (2023 NYSFBC National Class Champions), and the Purple Lancers Drum & Bugle Corps, where he held the position of Percussion Caption Head and Battery Arranger. His students have gone on to perform with numerous ensembles across Drum Corps International and Drum Corps Associates.
Bennett holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music (M.A.), the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam (B.M.), and Onondaga Community College (A.A.S.). His percussion studies have included private instruction and masterclasses with renowned artists such as Jim Petercsak, Robert Bridge, Catherine Meunier, Michael Burritt, John Beck, Bob Becker/Nexus, Paul Rennick, Mutsumi Tsuuzaki, Cameron Leach, and Kyle Peters.
Bennett is an Education Artist with Innovative Percussion, Inc., and a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), and the Percussive Arts Society (PAS).
