Anthony Derris is originally from the San Diego area where his passion for the arts began. After developing his skill under Daniel Pate in high school, Anthony moved to the greater Sacramento area in 2014 to attend California State University, Sacramento. Anthony Received his Bachelor's degree in Child Development, with a minor in Counseling. During his time at Sac State he was a member of the drumline for all 4 years and served as section leader his last year. In 2015 Anthony was a member of eNVision, an open-class WGI group based out of Reno, NV where he marched snare drum.
Anthony has taught, arranged, and designed for numerous schools ranging from middle school to the collegiate level in the Sacramento area. Anthony is currently the Percussion Director at West Park High School where he has had a hand in building the marching arts program since the schools opening in 2020. Anthony has a passion for teaching with the aim to help students find their voice in musical arts while providing a positive and welcoming environment that encourages growth at all levels.
Anthony also works within the Sacramento State's Marching band program focusing on the indoor percussion ensemble, (SSI) to help provide opportunities for students to continue music past their high school programs.
Anthony currently serves on the Board for the Northern California Percussion Alliance (NCPA). His aim is to help promote NCPA’s mission, to help provide a competitive and educational performance outlet for Northern California indoor percussion ensembles, with a continual goal of enriching the lives of young performers.
When he is not teaching, he is either out with his three dogs, Obi, Tina and Cooper, in the snow, or Camping.
