Andrew Scott Ramirez is currently the front ensemble caption head for Granada Hills High School in Granada Hills, Ca and the front ensemble technician for West Ranch High School in Stevenson Ranch, Ca. He is beginning his seventh year as an educator within the areas of music theory and percussion pedagogy with a special emphasis on Timpani.
Andrew is an alumnus of Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps and performed with the ensemble from the summers of 2004 to 2006. He was also a member of Pulse Percussion (PIW) for the 2006 and 2007 seasons. In addition to that, he has been a member of various pep bands, symphonic bands, concert bands, orchestras, percussion ensembles, and even a barbershop choir. He strongly believes that the opportunity to perform in these ensembles would never have been possible without the help and instruction of past teachers which include Bruno Cilloniz, Dr. Theresa Dimond, Josh Bowman, Susan Willmering, Stuart Pompel, Dr. Anthony Mazzaferro, Erik Leckrone, Tony Nunez, Ike Jackson and Caleb Rothe, among others.
A visual artist since the age of four, Andrew was first introduced to music his junior year in high school and very quickly fell in love with the new art form and his newly learned way of expressing it, percussion. It was soon after, that he decided to become an assistant to his band director and percussion instructor. This choice would eventually lead to him becoming an instructor, teaching concert percussion ensembles, marching percussion ensembles, and private lessons. Combining his passion of the musical and visual arts, Andrew has been available not only as a music/percussion educator but also as a uniform/visual designer as well. He has had the pleasure to work in a few southern California areas with several students and ensembles including Downey High School, Whittier High School, Tustin High School, Garfield High School, Granada Hills High School, West Ranch High School, and The Velvet Knights Drum and Bugle Corps. Andrew also assisted in leading Full Force Percussion (PIA) to WGI Championships in 2008, winning a silver medal as the front ensemble caption head, show designer, and uniform designer.
Andrew currently resides in Northridge, California and is forming a uniform and visual design company for indoor percussion and color guard: Indoor Image (facebook.com/indoorimage and indoorimage.blogspot.com). He is a very proud endorser of Innovative Percussion, Inc.
