Andrew Ball is a Canadian percussionist who calls Cochrane AB home, however he is no stranger to the road. As a performer, recording artist, instructor, and arranger Andrew sees many places and many faces. Since his time at the University of Calgary, under the instruction of Dr. Glen Price, Andrew has instructed and arranged for many marching ensembles in Southern Alberta; calling both the Calgary Stampede Showband front ensemble and the Red Deer Royals drumline weekly fixtures for the better part of this past decade. Spending two years with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps (2008,2009) allowed Andrew to hone skills in the marching percussive arts.
Currently Andrew is in his 9th year of playing with Calgary artist, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald @ilovembf/ilovembf.com. After recently completing the #Waytoobig #Waytooloud tour—a tour incorporating local orchestras, concert bands, marching bands, and choirs, Andrew, Michael and the band embark on yet another journey. 2016 debuts the newest full length studio release of "I Wanna Make It With You," touring near you!
Despite a classic orchestral/jazz background, over a decade of marching band and summers of drum corps, Andrew’s “lack of talent but surplus of creativity,” has found him standing with shakers and tambourines mounted all over his body; armed with IP mallets in hand to beat the crap out of his beautiful 60’s Yamaha kick drum-- poised much like a mega floor tom. Similar to a 1980’s jazzercise class, Andrew’s percussion routine is high energy, calorie burning, sweaty, and comes in eye-catching outfits.
When not on the road, Andrew teaches as often as possible-- clinic style sessions primarily out of Western Canada High and Notre Dame High School (Calgary AB). After early morning band workshops he is found amidst an array of dogs, pointed west in his 4x4 to climb in the Canadian Rockies or to the local Bow River for some fly fishing between sessions.
“There is no stick or mallet that I could ever want more than those made and designed by the team at Innovative Percussion!”
