OMAR
PHILLIPS – Drummer. Percussionist. Innovator.
Master creator of rhythmic beats.
Born in Atlanta, GA, Omar has been drumming since the age of five and
professionally for 20 years. Born and
raised in Atlanta, GA, he began his illustrious career drumming in the church
with his aunt, Evangelist Mary Jordan.
After attending Morris Brown College and being section leader of the
Sticking Sensation drum line, his first professional tour was with R&B
group Atlantic Starr. Soon his career
skyrocketed and he has since played as an in session percussionist and drummer
for as well as toured with all genres of music including hip-hop, jazz, rhythm
and blues, country and rock. Artists and
groups that have tapped his groove and pocket include Arrested Development, SOS
Band, New Edition, Goodie MoB, Donnell Jones, Usher, Jagged Edge, Mary J.
Blige, Outkast and Big Boi to name a few.
A master of anything he can get his hands on, Omar specializes in four
spectrums of rhythm, live and recorded drumming and live and recorded
percussion. He has secured numerous
endorsement deals including DW Drums, REMO drumheads, Kickport, Innovative
Percussion drumsticks and Zildjian cymbals.
Omar was influenced to learn and play drums and percussion by James
Gadson, Gerry Brown, Sonny Emory, Trilok Gurtru and Walter ‘Clyde’ Orange. He currently tours with Hip-Hop’s own Big Boi
and is gearing up for the much-anticipated reunion of Outkast. He currently resides in Atlanta, GA and is
house drummer and percussionist at the world renowned Stankonia Studios.
