A native of Rio Grande City, Texas, Jorge Peña has a diverse and varied career in percussion. Currently in his 14th year of music education, Jorge is the percussion instructor for Palmview High School with the La Joya Independent School District.
Jorge Peña graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor degree of Music from Texas A&M University - Kingsville in Kingsville, Texas. While
attending TAMUK, Jorge performed in various ensembles including the marching band, jazz ensembles and percussion ensembles.
As a performing musician, Jorge has recorded and toured North and South America with award winning groups such as Lizza Lamb,
Alex Montez, Pio Treviño y Grupo Majic and AB Quintanilla y Los Kumbia Kings. The Kumbia Kings won various Billboard Awards, a Grammy
Nomination and recognition by the Recording Industry Association of America in 2000 for gold and platinum sales certifications among other accolades. Currently, Jorge is an active studio musician and regularly performs with many bands and performing groups ranging in styles from Metal, Jazz, Percussion Ensembles and Musicals. Mr. Peña is also a founding member of the Unified Percussion Ensemble which performs regularly at Percussive Arts Society events in South Texas.
As a music educator, he teaches over 65 percussion students both at the middle and high school level. His students participate and receive honors within the University Interscholastic League Solo and Ensemble contests as well as marching band and indoor drumline every year. He was the percussion instructor for Kingsville I.S.D. (1999) and La Joya I.S.D. (2002 and 2004) during their advancement to the Texas state marching contest. Mr. Peña also regularly arranges and writes drum books and cadences for Palmview High School. Jorge Peña currently resides in Palmview, Texas with his wife of 12 years and his two boys. He enjoys performing, teaching and playing with his kids.
