Jon Maynard received his Bachelors Degree of Music Education from the University of North Texas. During his time at UNT, he studied under notable professors such as Paul Rennick, Mark Ford, Christopher Deane, Jose Aponte, and Ed Soph. In 2013 and 2015, Mr. Maynard took part in leading the UNT quad ensemble to become PASIC champions.
Mr. Maynard was a member of several independent performing arts organizations from the time he was in high school, until he graduated college. His performing career started in 2011, marching Forte Drum and Bugle Corps with Tyler Orbison as caption head. He then went on to march Santa Clara Vanguard for four years (2013 – 2016), serving as the quad section leader for his last two years. During that time, the SCV percussion section won the Fred Sanford Award for high percussion twice (2014, 2016) with Paul Rennick as the caption head. During the winter months, Mr. Maynard was the quad section leader for Vigilantes Indoor Percussion (2013 – 2017). Under the direction of Tyler Orbison, VIP was crowned champions at WGI open class finals in 2016.
Since graduating from Saginaw High School, Mr. Maynard has been an active teacher throughout the DFW area. Beginning in 2013, he was fortunate to work with Tyler Orbison and Stuart Spoon at Boswell High School, leading both the indoor and outdoor groups to success. He was also a private lesson teacher for several schools, including Boswell High School, Burleson Centennial High School, and Colleyville Heritage High School. Mr. Maynard is now the Director of Percussion for all of the Southlake Carroll school district, in Southlake, Texas. In the summer of 2017 Mr. Maynard was very fortunate to teach at the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Santa Clara Vanguard, winning another “Fred” for their second year in a row.
Jon married his high school sweetheart, Melody, in June 2017. They happily live in the DFW area with their dog, appropriately named Einstein.
