New York Freelance Artist and Symphony in ‘C’

Percussionist, educator, and studio musician Matt Smallcomb has been a member of the New York City music community since 2003. Matt performs in a variety of musical settings including orchestral music, chamber music, jazz, and improvisation. As an orchestral musician he has performed with The New World Symphony, The Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, The Philharmonic Orchestra of The Americas and performs regularly at Carnegie Hall with The New England Symphonic Ensemble, National Choral, and The Distinguished Concert Artists international. He has toured Japan with The New York Asian Symphony and had the opportunity to perform in a variety of situations with various artists including; Whoopie Goldberg, Judie Collins, Bob Becker, Lauren Flanigan, Don Rickles, DJ Radar, Kenny Rodgers and Marlon Saunders. As chamber musician Matt performs with Ensembles Du Monde, The New York Percussion Group, The Garden State Percussion Trio, and New York Wind Symphony.

As a drumset and pop artist Matt has performed and recorded with groups; The Five Percent, The Collective, Cordis, and Chavous. As a member of the Collective he has opened for such acts as: Afro Man, All 4 One, Arrested Development, Bone Thugs & Harmony, Busta Rhymes, Ja-Rule, Jurassic 5, Naughty by Nature, O-Town, The Roots, The Wailers, and has appeared on WVIA's Homegrown Music Series with The Five Percent out of Pennsylvania. Aside from his freelance Career Matt is currently performing and recording with new music group Cordis from Boston MA, The Dave Mattock Organ Trio out of Philadalephia, PA, and his own percussion duo out of New York City with Percussionist Chi-Ching Lin.

Matt has studied percussion with teachers Bob Nowak, Marko Marcinko, Barry Centanni, Michael Werner, and James Preiss.

Matt Smallcomb holds a bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, PA and a Master's Degree in Music Performance from The Mannes College of Music in New York City. He is currently percussion faculty for the Wilkes University Conservatory in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and is an artist endorser for Sabian Cymbols, Innovative Percussion Inc., and The Noble & Cooley Drums Company.
