This year’s clinic will give your students a chance to be involved in some great hands-on clinics, from our own area’s instructors and Mr. Kurry Seymour.
Kurry received a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music from West Virginia University with emphasis on multicultural music and arts. While attending WVU, Kurry had the opportunity to study steel drumming with Dr. Ellie Manette, Gamelan with Dr. Mantle Hood, African Drum and Dance with Paschal Young and Taiko Drumming with Dr. Tim Peterman.
Additional study has been with She-e-Wu, Tim Adams, Mark Thurston and Paul Rennick. Mr. Seymore has been a member of the Crossman Drum and Bugle Corps, and Percussion instructor with Carolina Crown. He was the founding Director of Percussion Studies and Marching Band Director at Costal Carolina from 2003 to 2010, where he received distinguished professor award in 2008. Kurry currently resides in Summerville, SC and works in the Dorchester District 2 School District. Kurry also runs the PURPOSE ON PROJECT.
The clinic will also give you percussion ensembles a chance to perform one or two numbers in our afternoon sessions. This clinic is for all percussion students grade 6-12 and is free of charge. Lunch will be provided by the Sycamore Arts Council. The Northwest Day of Percussion is funded by Northwest Mississippi Community College and the Sycamore Arts Council.
