Gregory Lyons teaches Applied Percussion, Percussion Ensemble, Percussion Methods and Secondary Instrumental Methods in the School of Fine Arts at Louisiana Tech University where he is an Assistant Professor.  He is also the Assistant Director of Bands for the Marching Band of Pride, for which he oversees the Drumline.

A native of Missouri, Dr. Lyons earned the Bachelor of Music Education degree from the Wheaton College Conservatory (IL), the Master of Music degree from Central Michigan University (MI), and the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from The Ohio State University (OH).

Prior to his appointment at Louisiana Tech in 2009, Dr. Lyons served as an Assistant Band Director in the Missouri public schools teaching all levels of band and percussion. He has been a frequent adjudicator and clinician throughout the Midwest. As a solo and ensemble performer, he has made appearances in Missouri, Illinois, Ohio, Texas, Oklahoma, Michigan, and California. In 2003, he was a winner in the CMU Concerto Competition performing Robert Kurka’s Concerto for Marimba.  More recently, he performed in a showcase concert with the OSU Percussion Ensemble at the 2008 Percussive Arts Society International Convention. He was also a semi-finalist in the 2009 Southern California International Marimba Competition.   

Dr. Lyons performs as principal percussion with the Rapides Symphony Orchestra (Alexandria, LA).  His primary teachers have included Susan Powell, Joseph Krygier, Andrew Spencer, and Kathleen Kastner.
