Danny Frye

Director of Athletic Bands
Danny Frye is the Director of Athletic Bands at High Point University where
he directs the Men's and Women's pep bands. Prior to coming to High Point,
Danny was the Assistant Director of Bands at Wake Forest University. While
at Wake Forest, Frye co-directed the marching band, directed the Women's
Basketball Band, and co-directed the Spring Indoor Drumline. Prior to his
tenure at Wake Forest, Frye was the Percussion Instructor at the University
of North Carolina at Charlotte and Pfeiffer University, the Director of
the Charlotte Youth Percussion Ensemble, and a Teaching Assistant at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Frye also taught high school band
in NC for eight years.
As a concert marimbist, Danny has appeared as a guest artist at the Festival
Internacional de la Percusion in Puerto Rico, the Southeastern Percussion
Festival, and the Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina Days of
Percussion. He has also given recitals, clinics, and masterclasses at
universities throughout the US.
As a professional percussionist, Danny is an accomplished drumset player, as
well as a seasoned orchestral percussionist. Frye has performed with Aretha
Franklin and Lorrie Morgan, as well as with the Charleston, SC, Greensboro,
and Winston-Salem Symphonies.
Frye earned his BM and MM degrees from The University of North Carolina at
Greensboro where he studied with Dr. Cort McClaren. Danny will complete his
Doctor of Musical Arts degree from UNCG in the Spring of 2009.
